With labor shortage increasing, Portugal changes immigration law for foreigners
Portugal, which has a labor shortage in the tourism and construction sectors, has changed its immigration law to facilitate worker migration from abroad. Changes have been made to facilitate visa acceptance, particularly for “digital nomads”, according to the text, which officially went into effect on Thursday.
This new immigration law, voted in parliament in July, allows immigrants who come to Portugal in search of work to obtain a temporary visa for 120 days, which can then be extended for another 60 days.
The new law facilitates visa procedures for digital nomads, who carry out their activities by traveling, especially thanks to the possibility of working remotely.
