Iran-Saudi Arabia talks entering ‘political phase’

Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Emir Abdullahiyan said, “The United Arab Emirates has also decided to send an ambassador to Tehran. The ambassador of the Emirates will come to Tehran soon. Kuwait also introduced its ambassador to Tehran.” said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Emir Abdullahiyan said that they will start “public political talks” in the negotiations to normalize relations with Saudi Arabia, and that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will soon appoint an ambassador to Tehran. Abdullahiyan evaluated the issues related to his country’s foreign policy in the program he attended on Iranian state television.

Stating that security issues have been discussed so far in the negotiations that started in April 2021 to normalize relations with Saudi Arabia, Abdullahiyan said, “Progress has been made in these 5 rounds of negotiations.” said.

Noting that they received a message from the Iraqi administration, which mediated the negotiations, that Saudi Arabia was ready to move the negotiations to the “stage of political talks open to the public,” Abdullahiyan said, “We are trying to continue the talks at the political level and ultimately lead to the normalization of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. We announced that we were ready.” he said.

Abdullahiyan stated that they have entered a process in which diplomatic relations will be increased with the other neighboring Gulf countries, the UAE and Kuwait. Iranian Foreign Minister said:

“The United Arab Emirates has also decided to send an ambassador to Tehran. The ambassador of the Emirates will come to Tehran soon. Kuwait also introduced its ambassador to Tehran. We expressed that we agreed that the new representative of Kuwait to come to Tehran in a few days. “
