Legal Administrative Assistant

Legal Administrative Assistant – Middle supports the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Office of General Counsel (OGC) located in Aurora Colorado, Ft. Belvoir Virginia, and potential offices in the near future throughout the country.  The Legal Assistant supporting the OGC Claims Collection project to scan and upload claims records, correlate those records with existing digital claims records, and so forth, processing incoming mail by assessing program requirements, opening cases in the General Counsel Case Tracking system, composing correspondence to appearing parties, scanning incoming mail into electronic format, drafting requests for records to TRICARE contractors, transmitting case documentation to contractors via DoD SAFE system, preparing and compiling electronic files for assignment, responding to telephone and email inquiries from beneficiaries, providers and contractors, preparing agency hearings to include drafting of official correspondence, compiling of exhibits, dissemination of Claims Collection work product, proof reading all outgoing attorney correspondence, compiling monthly Claims Collection report, participating in required records management training/tasks and other duties associated with supporting the Claims Collection department of the Office of General Counsel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a U. S. Citizen.
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance. 
    • Completion of an Associate’s degree and 2+ years of experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree preferred.
    • 2+ years of experience and proven longevity in a law firm or legal department desired.
    • Legal Assistants Certification (Maintenance Certification) through the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) desired.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven character and personality to work and provide consummate customer services in a high energy legal environment.
    • Proven ability to multi-task, stay organized, prioritize in a very busy government legal environment.
    • Proven proficiency with processing (incoming/out coming) subpoenas for a legal office/entity.
    • Proven proficiency with creating, coordinating, reviewing, and modifying travel authorizations.
    • Proven proficiency with preparing and submitting timecards.
    • Proven proficiency with performing all legal office recordkeeping functions.
    • Proven proficiency and professionalism in providing reception and phone coverage in a legal organization.
    • Proven proficiency and professionalism with email management.
    • Proven proficiency in scheduling meetings, teleconferences, maintaining directories, and personnel rosters and staff calendars.
    • Proven proficiency in working with attorneys in the processing of Final Decisions. 
    • Proven proficiency with maintaining and updating a law library.
    • Must be able to demonstrate Advanced to Expert level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products via pre-employment testing.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • with the Defense Travel System (DTS)
    • with the Legal Efficiency Automation Platform (LEAP)
    • with the Automated Time attendance and Production System (ATAAPS)
    • Knowledge of Defense Enrollment and Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)
    • Knowledge and Experience with TMT

Scheduled Weekly Hours:


Basic Compensation:

Pay Range: $26.00 – $32.00 hr.

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
