Australia has decided to evacuate its embassy in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. According to reports in the country’s press, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has ordered the evacuation of the Kiev Embassy on the grounds that the situation in Ukraine is getting worse.
Saying that Russia’s one-sided actions threatening Ukraine are in no way acceptable, Morrison accused the Chinese administration of being unresponsive to Moscow’s military aggression while criticizing Australia’s talks with the US, Japan and India.
Foreign Minister Marise Payne announced that the situation in the capital has become dangerous due to Russia’s military build-up on the country’s eastern border, and embassy staff will be moved to a temporary office in Lviv in the west.
Pointing out that in case of Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, they will have difficulties in providing consular services to Australian citizens, Payne stated that they continue to advise Australians in Ukraine to leave the country.
