Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that a diplomatic boycott will be applied to the Winter Olympics in Beijing, but athletes can participate in the competitions.
Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau held a press conference with Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and Sports Minister Pascale St-Onge in the capital Ottawa.
Prime Minister Trudeau said that they are negotiating with Canada’s allies on the issue and that they will implement a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Trudeau noted that athletes can participate in the competitions, but that no minister or diplomat will participate on behalf of his country.
The United States, Britain and Australia had previously announced that they would implement a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics.
